The Manobo, a major ethnic group in Mindanao, are divided into sub-tribes, including the Tigwahanon, who reside along the borders of Bukidnon and Davao del Norte and in parts of Agusan del Norte, Bukidnon, Agusan Sur, and Misamis Occidental. These areas are underdeveloped, with poor infrastructure and limited control over their ancestral lands. The Tigwahanon practice swidden farming and rely on forest resources but face displacement by logging and corporate plantations. Unlike Muslim tribes, the Tigwahanon lack political influence, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation by rebels and dissident groups. Effective outreach efforts combine evangelism with discipleship and community development, including upland farming techniques, education, and medical assistance. However, bitterness over land dispossession by Catholic lowlanders, often associated with Christians, poses challenges to Gospel outreach.
